Chelsea transfer news: Blues come up short with second bid for 20-year-old?

Chelsea reportedly fail with a second bid for a 20-year-old attacker as they bid to bolster their options in the final third.

Chelsea have reportedly failed with a second bid for a highly-regarded La Liga forward.

The Blues have, so far, enjoyed a productive summer transfer window with Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman and Marc Guiu all arriving at Stamford Bridge.

However, the latter duo are regarded as players of the future, leaving co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital still in the market for another striker.

A wide array of names have been linked with a switch to the West Londoners, including Aston Villa's Jhon Duran and Napoli's Victor Osimhen.

Atletico Madrid frontman Samu Omorodion is another player said to be on Chelsea's radar having impressed during his time away from his parent club.

Atletico stand firm over Omorodion

In recent weeks, it has been suggested that Chelsea have already failed with one formal approach to sign the 20-year-old.

According to The Sun, Atletico have shunned a second proposal that has arrived from Chelsea as they bid to retain the services of one of their top prospects.

Chelsea were allegedly prepared to part ways with £42m for a player who is yet to make a single first-team appearance for the Mattress Makers.

Nevertheless, that is nothing in comparison to what Atletico are demanding, the price tag that has been placed on Omorodion's shoulders standing at £70m.

What do Chelsea do now?

Much will depend on whether Chelsea view Omorodion as a priority or an option with Boehly and co already said to have moved away from other deals since the end of the season due to their cost.

The likelihood is that they will not be prepared to go as high as £70m, aware Atletico may change their stance if they feel another improved offer is too good to turn down.

Omorodion scored eight goals from 34 La Liga outings during 2023-24 and could plausibly establish himself as a successor to Alvaro Morata in time.

That said, Atletico officials know that they can give their financial situation a considerable boost in the long term if they cash in on the youngster before the end of August.
