Former Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins claims that Frank Lampard should be given a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

Former Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins has claimed that Frank Lampard still has something to offer the club.

The 34-year-old midfielder recently hinted that he could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge when his contract ends in the summer.

"He's a valuable character to have around and bring off the bench," Wilkins told BBC Sport. "It would be rather strange for him to finish his career at another club.

"In my humble opinion if I was manager of Chelsea I would want Frank to sign another contract because I know what he brings to the team and the club."

Lampard joined Chelsea from West Ham United in 2001 for £11m.
