England player ratings
JORDAN PICKFORD (out of 10): Fairly routine evening for the England goalkeeper who was heard throughout the game in the eerily stadium. Two decent saves either side of half-time. 6.
KYLE WALKER: Returned to a more familiar position of right-back as Gareth Southgate altered his system. Still bombed up the flank when the opportunity arose. 7.
JOHN STONES: The Manchester City defender has become a key part of Southgate's defence, whatever the system, and will be missed as he sits out Monday's game in Spain through suspension. 6.
HARRY MAGUIRE: Played out with the ball as is his wont and is building an understanding alongside Stones. 6.
BEN CHILWELL: Settled into the position at left-back on his first senior start and got forward whenever possible. 7.
ERIC DIER: Dropped very deep to take possession of the ball, often playing alongside the two centre-backs. Hit the post with a header. 6.
JORDAN HENDERSON: His early yellow card means he misses Monday's Nations League game against Spain. 6.
ROSS BARKLEY: Showed some neat flicks and wanted the ball but also gave away possession on a number of occasions. 6.
RAHEEM STERLING: Lively and could have given England an early lead but for a decent piece of defending. 6.
MARCUS RASHFORD: Spurred two superb chances to put England ahead early in the second half. 5.
HARRY KANE: Fewest touches on the pitch in the opening half but hit the woodwork with a header after the break. Suggestions he needs a rest are likely to continue on this showing. 5.
SUBSTITUTES:
JADON SANCHO (for Sterling, 78): Borussia Dortmund youngster was given 12 minutes to make a difference and had a couple of lively moments down the right. 6.
