Ryan Shotton excited to work with Steve McClaren

Ryan Shotton says that the opportunity to play under Steve McClaren was a factor in his decision to join Derby County from Stoke City.

New Derby County signing Ryan Shotton has admitted that the prospect of playing under head coach Steve McClaren was a factor in his decision to move to Pride Park.

The Stoke City defender joined the Championship outfit last month on a season-long loan deal, with a view to a permanent switch.

Shotton has said that he is looking forward to working with former England boss McClaren.

"His CV is unbelievable and he's got a great staff around him," Shotton told the Ashbourne News Telegraph.

"You only have to look at what he's done, so it was a massive thing for me to come and work under somebody like that."

McClaren led Derby to the Championship playoff final last season.
