Bryan Robson: England don't have a "standout candidate" for vacant captain role

Bryan Robson believes that it is between Joe Hart, Wayne Rooney or Gary Cahill to become the new England captain following Steven Gerrard's retirement from international football.

Ex-England captain Bryan Robson doesn't believe there is a "standout candidate" for the vacant role following Steven Gerrard's retirement from international football.

Gerrard announced his retirement from England duty on Monday, leaving Roy Hodgson with some thinking to do and Robson is unsure of an ideal replacement.

"As a captain I don't think we have a standout candidate," Robson told BBC Sport.
.
"Joe Hart, Gary Cahill and Wayne Rooney look like the contenders."

Rooney has captained England twice and was vice captain for a short period of time in the past.

Joe Hart has been capped 43 times for England and has cemented his place in goal for the national side.

Gary Cahill has 27 caps and has established himself in the side as a regular but only made his debut for England in 2010.
