England's Under-21's secure qualification for the European Championship playoffs as a seeded team after beating Norway 1-0.

England Under-21s have earned a seeded draw for the European Championship playoffs, having beaten Norway 1-0 at Chesterfield's B2Net Stadium.

After recording a 2-0 win over Azerbaijan last Thursday, Stuart Pearce's side required just a point tonight to top their qualifying group.

They went one better though, with Connor Wickham netting the game's solitary goal as England overcame their closest rivals in the race for first spot.

The Sunderland striker capitalised on some sloppy Norwegian defending to slot home on 43 minutes as the hosts moved a step closer to next summer's finals in Israel.

The playoffs for the tournament will be held between October 12 and 16, with the draw taking place in Nyon later this week.
