England physio picks up injury celebrating equaliser

England physio Gary Lewin has picked up an ankle injury whilst celebrating Daniel Sturridge's first half goal against Italy.

England physio Gary Lewin had to be carried from the sidelines after injuring his leg whilst celebrating Daniel Sturridge's equaliser against Italy in Manaus.

The Liverpool striker scored minutes before the half-time interval after the Three Lions fell behind to a Claudio Marchisio strike moments earlier.

However, as the England coaching staff jumped off the bench to celebrate, Lewin fell to the floor instantly and, according to the Daily Mail, repeatedly banged his fist against the turf in agony.

England officials later confirmed that the former Arsenal physio had sustained a dislocated ankle as a result.

Lewin has worked with the national side since 1996.
