Jay Rodriguez plays down World Cup hopes

Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez insists that he does not expect to be part of the England squad for this summer's World Cup.

Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez has claimed that he is not expecting to be part of the England squad for this summer's World Cup.

The 24-year-old scored his 14th goal of the season on Saturday to help his club earn a 4-2 win over Norwich City in the Premier League.

Despite England manager Roy Hodgson watching in the stands at St Mary's Stadium, Rodriguez is not taking his international future for granted.

"I think it's every lad's dream to perform for your country and go to a World Cup, but, like I've said before, I don't expect anything," he told Southampton's official website. "I'll just keep working hard and hopefully keep impressing."

Rodriguez made his England debut back in November when he came off the bench during a 2-0 defeat to Chile at Wembley Stadium.
