Switzerland leave it late to beat Estonia

Ragnar Klavan scores an own goal four minutes into added time to gift Switzerland a 1-0 victory over Estonia in Tallinn.

Already-qualified Switzerland were made to work hard to secure victory in their final Euro 2016 qualifier against Estonia this evening, having claimed a late 1-0 win in Tallinn.

The best opening of the first half fell the way of Ken Kallaste, who headed over the bar after being picked out by Ilja Antonov.

Estonia, looking to pull off a big coup in their final outing, continued to enjoy the brighter spells of possession but were unable to find a way through in a tame first half as Konstantin Vassiljev shot wide.

La Nati came out improved following the restart, and perhaps should have taken the lead when Admir Mehmedi failed to get the better of Mikhel Aksalu inside the box.

The next big moment came 20 minutes from time when Vassiljev latched on to a through-ball before firing at Marwin Hitz between the sticks.

That looked to be it in terms of the game's big chances, but Ragnar Klavan put the ball into his own net four minutes into added time to hand Switzerland all three points in the Group E encounter.

Vladmir Petkovic's charges end their qualifying campaign in second place with seven wins from a possible 10, while Estonia have to make do with a fourth-place finish.
