Rafael Benitez would be a good appointment for Everton, according to Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.

Jamie Carragher believes that Rafael Benitez would do a good job as manager of Everton, despite a possible backlash from fans due to his stint at bitter rivals Liverpool.

The Toffees are currently looking for a successor to David Moyes, who departs for Manchester United at the end of the season.

A number of candidates have been linked with the post, including Porto coach Vitor Pereira and Wigan Athletic's Roberto Martinez.

Benitez, who won the Champions League and FA Cup during his six-year reign at Anfield, will be searching for a new club in the summer when his short-term stay at Chelsea comes to an end.

When asked by talkSPORT about the possibility of his former boss taking over at Goodison Park, the 35-year-old replied: "Why not? They're looking for a manager and he's looking for a job.

"He wants to stay in the Premier League and he's stated that a few times, that is his priority. It might ruffle a few feathers, with the Liverpool and Everton side of it. I don't know how difficult that sort of thing is.

"Everton would love to get someone with his CV, but with the Liverpool situation it makes it difficult. If all parties come together and they are willing to give it a go then I'm sure he would do a good job."

Benitez guided the Blues to Europa League glory on Wednesday.
