Europa League roundup: Sevilla, eight-man Fenerbahce bow out after Braga mess

Sevilla, Villarreal, Shakhtar Donetsk, Sparta Prague and Braga seal their progression to the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Sevilla have stayed on course for a fifth Europa League title in 10 years after brushing aside Basel with a 3-0 win in Spain to reach the quarter-finals tonight.

After failing to score in last week's 0-0 draw in Switzerland, the Rojiblancos left themselves vulnerable to the dangers of an away goal.

However, Unai Emery's men went about their business in a clinical manner, with Adil Rami opening the scoring on 35 minutes, while a Kevin Gameiro brace just before half time effectively killed off the tie.

They will be joined in the last eight by fellow Liga outfit Villarreal, who held Bayer Leverkusen to a 0-0 draw in Germany as their 2-0 first-leg victory proved enough.

Elsewhere, there was a big upset for Lazio, who exited the competition to Sparta Prague.

By virtue of Marco Parolo's away goal in last week's 1-1 draw, the Serie A side had a slight advantage coming into the second leg - one which was negated on 10 minutes by Borek Dockal, before Ladislav Krejci added a second three minutes later.

Just before half time, Zdenek Scasny's side hammered the nail into Lazio's coffin as Lukas Julis added a third on the night to make it 4-1 on aggregate.

Arguably the night's most entertaining clash came in Portugal, where Fenerbahce - leading 1-0 after the first leg - lost 4-1 to Braga and finished the contest with eight men.

Ahmed Hassan Koka opened the scoring for the hosts, but Alper Potuk wrestled the tie back in the Turks' favour just before half time with a timely equaliser.

Josue levelled the tie at 2-2 from the penalty spot on 69 minutes, after Mehmet Topal was sent off, before goals from Nikola Stojiljkovic and Rafa Silva put the Portuguese outfit in pole position.

Potuk and Volkan Sen also received their marching orders in the closing minutes in what proved a messy end to proceedings in Braga.

Meanwhile, former Arsenal striker Eduardo netted a last-minute winner for Shakhtar Donetsk, who beat Anderlecht 1-0 in Belgium to seal their passage with a 4-1 aggregate victory.

Results in full: Lazio 0-3 Sparta Prague (1-4), Anderlect 0-1 Shakhtar Donetsk (1-4), Braga 4-2 Fenerbahce (4-2), Sevilla 3-0 Basel (3-0)
