Half-Time Report: Edin Dzeko, Daniel Sturridge score in first half

The home side made an attacking start to the half, forcing a save from Pepe Reina inside the opening two minutes when David Silva took a shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Liverpool also created early chances, Pablo Zabaleta needing to get back to keep out a Daniel Sturridge effort after the former City striker got the better of Joe Hart.

Sturridge picked out Luis Suarez in the 20th minute, but an increasingly narrow angle was too much for the Liverpool's leading goalscorer as he put his shot wide.

Edin Dzeko broke the deadlock after 23 minutes, James Milner creating the chance for the Bosnian to fire in from the six-yard box.

However, City's lead lasted just six minutes, with Sturridge drilling the ball past Hart from just outside the penalty area to level the scores.

A communication error between Hart and Zabaleta almost gifted Liverpool the lead just before half time when the defender attempted a back pass to his keeper that the England international missed, but the ball just inches wide.
