Steven Gerrard braced for emotional Anfield farewell

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admits that his final appearance at Anfield is bound to be an emotional occasion.

Steven Gerrard has admitted that it will be hard to bid goodbye to the Liverpool fans in his final game at Anfield on May 16.

Gerrard, 34, rolled back the years on Saturday by grabbing an 87th-minute winner in the 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers - his penultimate appearance on home soil.

With a summer move to Los Angeles Galaxy edging closer, the midfielder's 17-year stint on Merseyside is drawing to a close and the skipper has acknowledged that his final farewell will be an emotional occasion.

"These supporters have been behind me all the way. They've helped me make the player I am today. I thanked them for that support," he told Sky Sports News.

"I'm really looking forward to my last appearance here in a couple of weeks. It's going to be emotional for myself and my family, but I'm really looking forward to it."

The Reds face Crystal Palace in their final game at Anfield, before concluding their season with a trip to Stoke City on May 24.
