Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool are the frontrunners to sign Memphis Depay, according to PSV Eindhoven's sporting director Marcel Brands.
Manchester United were thought to be favourites to secure the player's services, and the Red Devils are believed to have held talks with his representatives.
However, Brands has suggested that United are not in pole position to snap up the Netherlands international this summer.
He told Fox Sports: "PSG and Liverpool are ahead of Manchester United in the race for Memphis. For the moment, United have only informed us of their interest in the player. But Bayern are not one of the teams that want to sign him.
"It is logical that there is such agitation surrounding Memphis. He is still a young player, but is already incredibly effective. He should be proud of that.
"Generally, is not much movement at this stage of the season. It is an exception that lots of clubs have already made their interest in him known. It shows him that he is on the right track."
Depay, the Eredivisie's top scorer this season, is contracted to PSV until 2018.
