Steven Gerrard steps up his comeback from groin surgery.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will begin light training this week after recovering from an infection.

The midfielder has not featured for the Reds since March after having surgery on a groin injury and was expected to return for the start of the new Premier League season.

However, his comeback was postponed after the 31-year-old contracted an infection as a result of the operation.

"Stevie will be stepping up his recovery this week," confirmed Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish.

Gerrard is expected to be ready for first-team action by mid-September.
