Mike Marsh: 'Philippe Coutinho is vital to Liverpool'

Liverpool coach Mike Marsh hails Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho as "vital" to the side.

Liverpool coach Mike Marsh has hailed Philippe Coutinho as "vital" to the side and tipped the Brazilian playmaker to improve further next season.

Coutinho has established himself as a key member of Brendan Rodgers's squad this campaign and was recently named in PFA's Team of the Season, and Marsh explained the 22-year-old's importance to the side.

He told the club's official website: "He's vital, isn't he? His form has been really good. As you can see from his selection in the PFA Team of the Year he has been voted by his peers as one of the best players in the country and that's without him being in a team that's been in the top four for most of the season.

"If others can improve as much as Philippe I think we'll have a much better season next season. He's fantastic [in training]. He loves football so much, which rubs off on the others.

"He's always out on the training pitch and he wants to be better and is always practising, so it's paid off this season."

Rodgers's side travel to champions Chelsea on Sunday.
