Gylfi Sigurdsson says that Tottenham Hotspur's trophy ambitions were a key factor in him joining the club.

New Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has revealed that he moved to the club to win trophies.

After spending a successful period on loan at Swansea City last season, the Icelandic international snubbed both his old club and Liverpool to join Spurs.

The 22-year-old believes that winning titles was the main factor behind his move.

"I'm delighted to be here. It's a massive club with fantastic players," Sigurdsson told the club's official website. "This club is always improving. There is massive ambition from the board and the players are really ambitious as well. We're all looking forward for the new season to begin.

"The main target at Swansea was to stay in the league, here at Spurs, it's a big club and we aim to win titles and silverware.

"I think the most important thing is that we get off to a good start in the Premier League, get a good momentum and then we can take that into the Europa League and then the FA Cup. We want to play for silverware in every competition we are in."

Sigurdsson has since been joined at White Hart Lane by former Ajax captain Jan Vertonghen.
