Liverpool will reportedly hand defender Joe Gomez a new contract ahead of the start of next season.

Liverpool have reportedly decided to hand a new contract to defender Joe Gomez.

At the start of 2017, Gomez penned a five-year deal with the Merseyside giants and the young Englishman has continued to impress Jurgen Klopp since being given more opportunities in the first team.

Gomez has suffered injury problems during his time at Anfield but according to The Sun, that will not stop Liverpool from rewarding the versatile defender with fresh terms.

The report claims that Gomez - who has made 30 appearances in all competitions this season - will improve his wages to £50,000 per week.

An ankle operation has kept Gomez out of the closing weeks of the campaign and resulted in the 21-year-old missing out on England's World Cup squad.
