Ghana 2-0 Mali

Ghana edge towards the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Mali in Group D.

Ghana have put themselves in a strong position in Group D of the Africa Cup of Nations with a 2-0 win over Mali.

Adama Tamboura had two first-half efforts for Mali, but the defender was wayward on both occasions.

Ghana nearly took a half-time lead when Cheick Diabate's free kick hit both posts before coming out to Bakaye Traore, who could only blaze over.

Sulley Muntari smashed a free kick high and wide just after the break, while Andre Ayew drew a good save from Soumbeyla Diakite.

Ghana made the breakthrough on the hour when Asamoah Gyan curled a free kick over the wall and past Diakite.

Modibo Maiga should have equalised for Mali, but he could only put his header over the bar.

Ghana sealed the win in the 77th minute when Ayew twisted and turned inside the are before he fired in a low shot.
