Vincent Kompany: 'Competition is necessary if we want to compete on all fronts'

Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany insists that competition at the club is important if they want to compete on all fronts this season.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has insisted that the number of defensive options that the club now have will be important if they want to compete on all fronts.

The Sky Blues have been fairly busy in the transfer market and most recently brought in highly-rated defender Nicolas Otamendi much to the delight of Kompany, who has stated that competition is needed if City want to remain a top club.

"It is so important in any top team to have quality players all over. The extra competition is good, really good," said the Belgian international, according to the Straits Times.

"You don't play for a top team unless you have that. If you look at the schedule, you could end up with 50-60 games and that is impossible for one team.

"If you want to go for every trophy, we have got [Jason] Denayer, [Martin] Demichelis, Otamendi, Mangala and myself. You need that to go for it."

City currently top the Premier League table with three wins from three games.
