Alvaro Negredo: 'I joined Manchester City for World Cup call'

Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo admits that he joined the club to improve his prospects of a World Cup appearance with Spain.

Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo has said that he joined the club to try togain a spot in Spain's World Cup squad.

The Spaniard joined from Sevilla in the summer for around £21m, and scored his first City hat-trick in their 5-2 win against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

The forward feels that the interest City receive will help him improve his prospects for a Spain call-up, with the World Cup looming next summer.

"I can improve my game a lot at Man City, that's why I came here," Negredo told Sky Sports News.

"Perhaps Spain can look for qualities in me that I didn't have at Sevilla or that I'm trying to add to my game now.

"Man City is a club which attracts more attention, especially from the press. They already know me in the international set-up. I'm the same."

Negredo has scored four goals in the Premier League this season.
