Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at Manchester United's pre-season fixtures.

Manchester United will begin their 2022-23 Premier League season against Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford on August 7.

The match will mark Erik ten Hag's first competitive fixture as head coach of the club, but the team have a lot of football to play before the start of their new campaign, with six pre-season fixtures in the diary.

The Red Devils are due to return to pre-season training before the end of the month, although those involved for their countries during the recent break have been given extra recovery time.

"We will start pre-season on 27 June and I will get a few of the squad, of the individual players. Not all the players will be coming in [on 27 June], because the ones who play internationals will have a longer break, because they play longer in this current season," Ten Hag told MUTV last month.

Ten Hag's start will start their preparations for the new season against English rivals Liverpool in Bangkok on July 12, with the match taking place at the Rajamangala Stadium in Thailand's capital.

From there, the 20-time English champions will head to Australia, where they will take on Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace on July 15 and July 19 respectively, with both matches taking place at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Perth's Optus Stadium will then host Man United against Aston Villa on July 23, with the Red Devils facing three Premier League sides during their preparations for the new campaign.

The fixture against Steven Gerrard's outfit will be the final match of their Thailand and Australia tour, but they will head back to Europe to take on Atletico Madrid in Oslo, Norway on July 30.

Man United will then face Rayo Vallecano on July 31, with the fixtures on back-to-back days meaning that there will be a lot of rotation, with the games coming one week before the start of the Premier League season.

The match will mark new head coach Erik ten Hag's first home fixture, and the club's football director John Murtough said that the game would be "a great opportunity" for players not heavily involved in the pre-season tour to get minutes in their legs.

"Pre-season is all about preparation and this is a great opportunity for those squad members who may not have featured in some of our earlier Tour and pre-season matches to get valuable minutes on the pitch – and where better to do this than Old Trafford?" Murtough told the club's official website.

"This will be the new manager's first match at Old Trafford, and I am sure the fans will provide him with a warm welcome."

Last season, the Red Devils finished sixth in the Premier League, reached the fourth round of the FA Cup, third round of the EFL Cup and last-16 stage of the Champions League.

The fixtures for the 2022-23 Premier League season were released on Thursday, and Man United will take on Brighton, Brentford, Liverpool, Southampton and Leicester City in the first month of the campaign.

October will also be particularly busy for the 20-time English champions, facing Manchester City, Everton, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and West Ham United in the league, while they will also play three times in the group stage of the Europa League that month.

The season is starting earlier than usual due to the 2022 World Cup, which will take place in November and December, so the group stage of the Europa League will be completed by early November.
