Manchester United are forced into a second first-half sub during their Premier League clash with Liverpool as Juan Mata follows Ander Herrera off the pitch.

Manchester United have been forced into a second first-half substitution during their crucial Premier League showdown with Liverpool.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had already taken Ander Herrera off after just 20 minutes of the match at Old Trafford when Juan Mata also pulled up with an injury.

The Spaniard was replaced by Jesse Lingard, who himself was a fitness doubt ahead of the match after picking up a hamstring injury against Paris Saint-Germain.

Lingard went on to last less than 20 minutes as United were required to make a third substitution in the first half.

Liverpool also needed to switch their plans during an injury-strewn opening 45 minutes, with Roberto Firmino picking up what looked like an ankle problem to be replaced by Daniel Sturridge.
