Eamonn Dunphy: 'Paul Pogba is not good enough for Manchester United'

Eamonn Dunphy says that Paul Pogba is "not good enough" for Manchester United.

Former Republic of Ireland international Eamonn Dunphy has claimed that Manchester United would be "better off" without Paul Pogba.

Before Neymar's £200m switch to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona in the summer, Pogba was the most expensive footballer in history when he rejoined United from Juventus for £89m in 2016.

In his first season, the midfielder was criticised for not being consistently influential on the pitch, and after returning from suspension in the current campaign, the Frenchman attracted a negative assessment from United legend Paul Scholes.

The retired player accused Pogba of "strolling through games" and questioned whether the 24-year-old was "training properly".

Dunphy has echoed Scholes's sentiments and thinks that the United player is "not good enough" for the Premier League giants.

"There's an awful lot of hype merchants in the media and in the game saying that Pogba is an outstanding, but I agree with everything that Scholes has said," Dunphy told RTE 2fm.

"Paul Scholes is well qualified as a commentator, he was a great player. He calls things as he sees it and we should be grateful for that. This 'magician' called Pogba, well he never turns up.

"A price tag of £90m, well that's ridiculous. Pogba is not good enough. No matter what system Paul Pogba plays in, he is not a top player. United would be better off without him. He's okay, if you paid £20m, you'd think you'd be getting a good deal."

The midfielder has scored three goals and produced eight assists in 16 appearances in all competitions this season.
