Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand hails Liverpool rivalry

Rio Ferdinand hails the rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool ahead of this afternoon's clash.

Rio Ferdinand has hailed Manchester United's rivalry with Liverpool as the most important for them, despite Manchester City's recent title challenges.

Ferdinand is looking forward to the clash between the two sides tomorrow, particularly as it is at Anfield.

"You get a different feeling when it is Liverpool," Ferdinand told MUTV. "I think it is the history, the success Liverpool had and the success we had in recent years.

"The rivalry is always going to be huge. On the pitch, you sense the atmosphere building up to a game and during it. I have been lucky enough to be on the winning team a few times. To come away from Anfield with a win is a great feeling.

"I don't think it will make any difference having an ex-Everton man (David Moyes) in charge. He had [the desire to win] with Everton. I am sure he will quickly realise this game is as big in Manchester as it was for them."

United take on Liverpool at 1.30pm this afternoon.
