Rio Ferdinand believes that Manchester United will keep their lead in the Premier League table right until the end of the season.

Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has insisted that the Red Devils are where they want to be as they head in to the final stretch of the season.

The English champions are on course to retaining their Premier League title as they currently sit at the top of the table with nine games left to play.

Despite Manchester City closing the gap to just one point following their 2-1 victory over Chelsea last night, Ferdinand is confident that United can keep their noses in front and clinch the club's 20th league title.

"We're in the position at the minute that we want to be," Ferdinand told Sky Sports News. "We want to be top at this stage of the season, but more importantly we want to remain there until the end of the season.

"I think this is a vital period, each game is a must-win game. At the moment, if we win all of our remaining games until the end of the season, we will be champions. That's what we're going out to do.

"We've left ourselves in a position where we are going to be a couple of points behind or on top. Right now we are top and we have got to finish it off."

United continue their league challenge with a home fixture against Fulham on Monday evening.
