Liverpool will reportedly display mosaics in tribute to the 96 lives lost in the Hillsborough disaster before their match with Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.

Liverpool and Manchester United will join together to pay respect to the victims of the Hillsborough tragedy at Anfield this Sunday.

The fierce rivals go head to head in a Premier League clash this weekend but before the sides lock horns, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and United skipper Nemanja Vidic will reportedly release 96 red balloons to mark each life that was lost during a crush in the Sheffield stadium 23 years ago.

It is understood that the Merseyside club will display three separate mosaics before kick-off - the number '96' will be displayed at the Anfield Road end, the Kop will display 'The Truth', and 'Justice' will be shown on the Lower Centenary stand, according to the Liverpool Daily Post.

"It is the first opportunity we have had as a football club to pay tribute at Anfield for what everybody has done: the families, the fans and various other people like Andy Burnham MP," said Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre. "It is a chance for everybody to show their respects on the day."

An independent panel revealed last week that the South Yorkshire Police in 1989 had attempted to cover up their incompetence by altering up to 164 statements in order to deflect the blame on to the supporters.
