Jose Mourinho: 'We are evolving as a team'

Jose Mourinho insists that there has been "a clear evolution" in his Manchester United team this season.

Jose Mourinho has insisted that there has been "a clear evolution" in his Manchester United team this season.

Mourinho delivered the EFL Cup and Europa League during his first season in charge of the Red Devils, but a disappointing Premier League campaign saw them finish down in sixth position.

This term, United are currently second in the Premier League table, and will take on Chelsea in the final of the FA Cup next month.

Despite the disappointment of exiting the Champions League in the round of 16, Mourinho has said that his team are moving in the right direction.

"This season better than last season. Last we won the Europa League, if we played Europa League this year we'd win it too but we played Champions League. We were not good enough to win it," Mourinho told reporters.

"Domestically last season we won the League Cup, we are in the FA Cup final. This season we finish top four I believe and I hope second. More points, victories, goals, less goals conceded, not consistently but many times better football, there was a clear evolution in the team."

United are back in Premier League action at home to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
