David Moyes condemns Tom Cleverley petition

Manchester United manager David Moyes condemns the media for publicising a petition calling for Tom Cleverley to be banned from England's World Cup squad.

Manchester United manager David Moyes has hit out at the media for giving publicity to an online petition calling for Tom Cleverley to be banned from England selection.

The campaign has currently reached a total in excess of 17,000 signatures, but Moyes has praised the desire of the midfielder, who he insists is still developing at Old Trafford.

The 50-year-old told reporters: "First and foremost, I am surprised that the media would be picking something up on social media and making a big case out of it because that is wrong.

"Tom Cleverley is a fantastic young player who is developing all the time. He is a great trainer and he is someone who is first out and every day does his best in training."

Cleverly has won 13 caps for his country, the last of which came in the 1-0 defeat to Germany in November.
