Alan Pardew lauds "magnificent" Newcastle United

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew hails his side's performance during this afternoon's 1-0 win at Manchester United as "magnificent".

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has hailed his side's performance during this afternoon's win at Manchester United as "magnificent".

Yohan Cabaye's third goal of the season secured a 1-0 victory for the Magpies, who had not won away against the Red Devils since February 1972.

"It's one of the top moments in my time here," Pardew told reporters. "It's been 41 years we've been waiting. A magnificent performance.

"I know we probably won't get the headlines because of United and David Moyes, but we deserve them because the players were magnificent.

"I asked them to play differently today, to keep the ball and we did that. We made it difficult for them and it's a great day for us. I thought we were worthy, we had control and they didn't have too many moments."

Today's result at Old Trafford, coupled with Everton's 1-0 triumph on Wednesday, means that the Red Devils have suffered back-to-back home Premier League defeats for the first time since May 2002.
