Report: Crystal Palace omission bemuses Robin van Persie

A report claims that Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal decided not to pick Robin van Persie at the weekend, despite the striker's recovery from illness.

Robin van Persie was reportedly surprised by Louis van Gaal's decision not to include him in the Manchester United squad for Saturday's 2-1 win away at Crystal Palace.

When asked why the Dutch striker had not been selected, Van Gaal claimed that he had been struck down by a virus.

However, while Van Persie had been ill and did miss one training session last week, he had recovered by Friday and travelled to London with the rest of the United squad, according to the Daily Mail.

He was left out, though, which the report added had left the 31-year-old bemused.

Van Persie has scored 10 goals during what has been an injury-hit season for the former Arsenal frontman.
