Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag suggests that Mason Greenwood could have a future at Old Trafford.

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has suggested that Mason Greenwood could have a future at Old Trafford, with a decision on the forward likely to come this summer.

The 21-year-old has not turned out for the Red Devils since January 2022 due to the serious charges that he was facing following allegations from a woman.

However, at this moment in time, Greenwood is technically free to resume his career, as all of the criminal charges against him, including rape, assault, sexual assault, and threats to kill, have been dropped.

Man United are currently conducting their own internal investigation, with the club weighing up all of their options, which include releasing him, selling him, loaning him out for the 2023-24 campaign, or bringing him back into the first-team squad for next term.

A final decision is expected to be made this summer, and there has been a host of recent speculation, with the likes of Juventus, AC Milan and Roma said to be keen to bring him to Italy.

Before the serious allegations, Greenwood had been viewed as one of the best young talents in the world, representing Man United on 129 occasions in all competitions, scoring 35 goals and contributing 12 assists.

The forward still has two years left to run on his current deal, and there is believed to be a real split at the club among the staff and the players when it comes to his future.

When discussing whether he needed to bring in another striker during this summer's transfer window to support Marcus Rashford, Ten Hag discussed Greenwood's position at the club.

"[He] showed in the past that he is capable of doing that (scoring goals)," Ten Hag told The Times, before making it clear that the forward's future would not come down to him.

A recent report claimed that Juventus had made contact with Greenwood's representatives to make it clear that they are interested in bringing him to Turin this summer.

The Man United academy product is allegedly not expecting to turn out for the Red Devils again, and it has been suggested that he would be open to moving abroad to continue his career.

The views of the Man United's women's team, in addition to sponsors and fan groups, will reportedly be taken into serious consideration when it comes to the club's final decision.

Greenwood has largely operated off the right for the 20-time English champions, but the Red Devils spent big money on Antony last summer to play in that area of the field.

The decision on Greenwood will also play a big part in Man United's summer plans, as they are currently pushing ahead for a big-money centre-forward, with Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane and Napoli's Victor Osimhen being heavily linked with the club.
