Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-5 Manchester United

Manchester United score five unanswered goals against Wolverhampton Wanderers to open up a four point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Manchester United scored five goals without reply away at Wolverhampton Wanderers this afternoon to open up a four-point margin at the top of the Premier League table.

The home side's cause was not helped by a 39th-minute red card that was handed to defender Ronald Zubar before the break for two separate challenges on Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck.

Visiting United were one goal to the good when Zubar was given his marching orders courtesy of Jonny Evans. Rooney's corner was met by Michael Carrick, who found Evans inside the area to shoot past Wayne Hennessey from close range in the 21st minute.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side made their numerical advantage count before the break with further goals from Antonio Valencia and Welbeck.

United continued to dominate after the restart, creating numerous chances to extend their lead further.

Javier Hernandez converted two of those chances, finding himself unmarked inside the area in the 56th and 60th minutes to score from close range.

Welbeck and substitute Paul Pogba had opportunities to add a sixth for United as the match drew to a close, but neither were able to keep their efforts on target.

United's win has taken their tally to 70 points for the season, while Wolves have dropped to the bottom of the table.
