Team News: Wayne Rooney captains Manchester United

Wayne Rooney will captain Manchester United against Everton at Goodison Park.

Wayne Rooney has been given the captain's armband for Manchester United's trip to his boyhood club Everton this afternoon.

He will play as a lone striker, with the fit again Nani, as well as Juan Mata and Shinji Kagawa, offering support from advanced midfield roles.

Elsewhere, Jonny Evans has been brought into the defence, which is likely to see Phil Jones move out to right-back.

As for Everton, both James McCarthy and Steven Naismith have been recalled to the starting lineup, having started the 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace last time out on the bench.

Everton: Howard; Baines, Distin, Stones, Coleman; McCarthy, Barry; Mirallas, Barkley, Naismith; Lukaku

Man United: De Gea; Jones, Smalling, Evans, Buttner; Carrick, Fletcher; Nani, Kagawa, Mata; Rooney
