Getafe sporting director Ruben Reyes says that his club "dreamed" of signing Mason Greenwood, who arrived on loan from Manchester United last week.

Getafe sporting director Ruben Reyes has said that his club "dreamed" of signing Mason Greenwood.

The 21-year-old completed a loan switch to the La Liga outfit from Manchester United on transfer deadline day, and he was officially unveiled to the club's supporters on Tuesday.

Getafe boss Jose Bordalas has recently addressed the club's controversial signing, while Greenwood said that he was "very happy" to join the capital side.

"I am very happy to be here. I have been training for four or five months, I am getting up to speed and have been training with my teammates and feel quite good," Greenwood told the club's fans earlier this week.

"We take it one game at a time and the next home game is coming in a few weeks and we will try to win and do our best."

At the start of last year, Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault following accusations from a woman, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

The Englishman was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but the charges have since been dropped.

Man United have decided against bringing the forward back into their side, but he has another two years left to run on his contract at Old Trafford and is only on loan at Getafe, fuelling suggestions that there could yet be a Red Devils return in the future.

Getafe sporting director Reyes has insisted that Greenwood is "just the same" as the other players that the club signed on September 1.

"There is no need for us to handle anything [off the pitch]. We have signed a footballer who is just the same as Diego Rico and Oscar Rodriguez, and that's it. We have to do our job, and that's what we focus on," Reyes told reporters.

"We're very excited with him. He was a player that we knew was out there. We worked on it, gathered information and bit by bit we saw that there could be a possibility.

"We spoke to his family, to his dad, to his people for a long time. We were able to convince him to come here, to trust in us.

"We're satisfied. He plays very free, as if he was on a school playground. He has a very high level. We dreamed that we could bring him here, and sometimes that gets fulfilled.

"It is a year's loan: it's very difficult to get an option to buy on a player [like him]. He will be here all season. There are internal discussions [between the clubs] but those are small details that we try not to share. They appreciated the effort, how convinced we were."

At this stage, it is unclear when Greenwood will be available to make his debut for the Spanish club, as he has not played a competitive match since January 2022.
