Victor Lindelof's agent has confirmed that Barcelona were interested in signing the defender from Manchester United during the summer.
The 25-year-old was one of United's best players last season, scoring one goal in 40 appearances across all competitions.
Speaking to Sport Bladet, Hasan Cetinkaya said that Barcelona stepped up their interest in the former Benfica defender after Juventus won the race for Matthijs de Ligt's signature.
Cetinkaya said: "He's one of the best centre-backs on his feet and Barcelona wanted him. That was it. I can talk openly about that now.
"They contacted Ed Woodward multiples times with concrete offers. I met with their head of transfers Matt Judge to try and get a deal through.
"But they said 'There is no way. Victor is one of our best players'."
The Swedish international has been an ever-present for United in the Premier League this season and earlier this month signed a new deal to keep him at Old Trafford until 2024.
