Stuttgart centre-forward Serhou Guirassy emerges as a January transfer target for Manchester United, according to a report.

Manchester United are reportedly considering making a move for Stuttgart centre-forward Serhou Guirassy when the January transfer window opens for business.

The Red Devils have only found the back of the net on 16 occasions in the Premier League this season, and starting striker Rasmus Hojlund is yet to register in England's top flight this term.

Both Antony Martial and Marcus Rashford scored during the team's 3-0 win over Everton in the league last weekend, but the 20-time English champions are said to be determined to bring in a new forward in the winter market to provide competition for Hojlund.

Martial only has a contract until the end of the 2023-24 campaign, and it remains unclear whether the Frenchman will have a 12-month extension in his deal activated.

Porto's Mehdi Taremi has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford, but Man United have seemingly fallen down the pecking order when it comes to the race for the Iran international.

Meanwhile, a mid-season switch for Federico Chiesa is highly unlikely despite suggestions that Juventus could be open to January offers for the Italy international.

According to The Guardian, Guirassy has been identified as a genuine target, with the Guinea international in excellent form for Stuttgart during the 2023-24 campaign.

The 27-year-old has netted 15 times in 10 Bundesliga appearances this season, while he has 16 goals and two assists in 11 outings in all competitions during the current campaign.

Guirassy spent last season on loan at Stuttgart from Rennes, netting 14 times in all competitions, but he has already bettered that total this term during an explosive start.

The forward penned a three-year contract with the German club over the summer, but it is understood that there is a release clause of €17.5m (£15.1m) in his deal.

As a result, Man United could potentially sign him in a cut-price move, with the English club allegedly already contacting his agents to discuss a January switch.

Newcastle United are also believed to be interested in Guirassy, who recently hinted at a desire to make the move to the Premier League.

"I cannot hide these things – everyone knows the Premier League is one of the most competitive leagues in the world. But at this time I don't close any doors," he told The Guardian last month.

"There are some very big teams in Europe and it's not focused only on the Premier League. At Stuttgart we have such a good team and everything is possible in football. If we can continue to be humble like we have been so far then we have a good chance."

Guirassy, who has three goals in 12 appearances for Guinea, has also played for the likes of Lille, Auxerre, FC Koln and Amiens during a well-travelled career.
