Manchester City are reportedly prepared to challenge rivals Manchester United for the signature of Sadio Mane.
The winger is expected to leave Southampton in the summer, with United previously thought to be his most likely destination.
However, according to The Sun, City's director of football Txiki Begiristain has asked to be kept informed of any developments on the 23-year-old's future.
The report adds that either of the Manchester clubs would have to part with around £25m to sign Mane, who joined the Saints from Red Bull Salzburg 18 months ago.
The Senegal international has scored three goals and assisted a further six during his 25 Premier League appearances this season.
