Manchester United 'ditch January spending plans'

Manchester United shelve plans to lure the likes of Mats Hummels and Kevin Strootman to Old Trafford in January, according to reports.

Manchester United have reportedly been forced to shelve plans for a spending spree after struggling to secure two key transfer targets.

The Red Devils have been widely linked with possible moves for Roma midfelder Kevin Strootman and Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels.

According to The Mirror, United have been frustrated in their attempts to lure the pair to Old Trafford before the end of January.

However, manager Louis van Gaal has since given assurances that his current squad is sufficient enough for the club to earn qualification for next season's Champions League.

United have also ended their current pursuit of Everton right-back Seamus Coleman, but may rekindle their interest in all three targets at the end of the season.
