Louis van Gaal admits Manchester United may try to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo

Louis van Gaal admits that it is "possible" that Manchester United will try to re-sign Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo in the future.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has admitted that it is "possible" that the club will try to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford from Real Madrid.

Widespread reports have claimed that the Portugal captain would be open to rejoining the club he signed for when he was a teenager because he has become disillusioned with life in Spain.

When asked by reporters in this afternoon's press conference if he would want to sign Ronaldo should the chance arise, Van Gaal said: "It's possible. It's always a discussion in the papers and I don't think the media shall buy Ronaldo. I have always said with [Radamel] Falcao and players like Ronaldo, they give a lot extra to a selection or a team but I don't think Real Madrid shall sell."

Ronaldo signed for Real back in 2009 for a then-world record fee of £80m, which was eclipsed when Madrid bought Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur for around £85m.

The Ballon d'Or winner has always been open about his fondness for United, who recruited six players, including Radamel Falcao, Angel di Maria and Daley Blind, in the summer.
