Alan Hansen: 'Alan Pardew lucky not to be sacked'

Alan Hansen believes that Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is lucky not to have been fired for headbutting Hull City midfielder David Meyler.

Alan Hansen has said that Alan Pardew is "lucky" that he was not sacked for headbutting Hull City midfielder David Meyler during Newcastle United's win at the KC Stadium yesterday.

The Magpies manager has been fined £100,000 and has accepted a formal warning from the club, but he is not expected to face further disciplinary action from the Premier League outfit.

During the BBC's Match of the Day programme, the former Scotland international said: "The only ones who can sack him are Newcastle and they've taken the view to give him a massive fine and warn him.

"He's a lucky, lucky man. I don't know what he was doing getting involved in the first place."

The FA are also investigating the incident.
