Steve Harper has thanked Newcastle United's fans after playing his last game for the club.

The 38-year-old goalkeeper, who has been with the Magpies since 1993, started Sunday's 1-0 defeat against Arsenal at St James' Park in the Premier League.

"That was an incredible send-off," Harper told BBC Sport. "I didn't deserve that but it was very much appreciated.

"The fans have been incredible. It's been a roller-coaster for 20 years but it's time to jump off."

Harper has made 111 competitive appearances for Newcastle during his 20 years on Tyneside.
