Alan Pardew calms rumours over Newcastle United exit

Alan Pardew insists that his job at Newcastle United is safe following rumours of a possible sacking.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has dismissed suggestions that there are concerns over his job.

Rumours were rife that the ex-West Ham United boss had been relieved of his duties following the Magpies' 3-2 defeat to Everton on Monday evening.

However, Pardew has confirmed that he had a meeting with owner Mike Ashley and director of football Joe Kinnear after the match to discuss progress with the team.

"It's important to go to see the owner after a game like that and make sure that we know where we are coming from," BBC Sport quotes Pardew as saying.

"We had a good meeting after - me, Mike and Joe - just to make sure we know exactly what is going on on the pitch and what's going on in terms of the results. There was nothing untoward there."

The Magpies have taken seven points from six games in the Premier League this season.
