Alan Pardew has revealed that he was interested in bringing Danny Graham to Newcastle United before he signed for Swansea City.
The two sides meet at the Liberty Stadium on Friday, with Graham looking to add to his tally of 10 Premier League goals for the season.
Pardew has recruited Senegalese strike duo Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse, who have both enjoyed successful starts on Tyneside, but he has revealed that he previously highlighted the Swans forward as a possible signing.
"I wouldn't say he got away. But I knew about him, because Malky had tipped me off," Pardew told The Gazette.
"We just didn't have enough on him. We couldn't do enough work in terms of whether he was going to fit the bill for us. He's had a marvellous season. He's done really well. We will have to be on our guard against him.
"Who knows? There might be a day when he comes back to the North East," said the Newcastle boss."
Graham joined Swansea from Watford for £3.5m last July.
