New Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has confirmed that he has a break clause in his contract in the event that the club are relegated to the Championship.
The Spaniard replaced Steve McClaren at St James' Park on Friday as the Magpies sit one point from safety in the Premier League table with ten games of their season to play.
Asked about rumours that he would leave the club if they failed to beat the drop, Benitez confirmed to reporters: "Some people can see this as special, but it's normal.
"I am trying to stay in the Premier League and if I have a compromise for the future, it's because I am convinced that we will do well. I want to stay.
"I am convinced we will [stay up]. I am here because I believe these players are good enough."
Benitez's first game in charge is a tough trip to league leaders Leicester City on Monday night.
