Demba Ba is expected to complete his move from West Ham to Newcastle today.
The striker became free to talk to other clubs after the Hammers’ relegation activated a clause in his contract. He arrived at St James’s Park for negotiations and a medical yesterday.
The Senegalese player made seven goals from 13 appearances last season after joining in January.
Meanwhile, former Magpies captain Kevin Nolan has moved in the other direction while Alan Pardew also has sights set on Swansea’s Neil Taylor.
