Newcastle United want to sign Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope this summer, according to a report.

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope during this summer's transfer window.

The 30-year-old still has a year left to run on his contract at Turf Moor, with the option of an additional 12 months, but he is likely to leave the Clarets this summer following their relegation to the Championship.

Nottingham Forest have recently been credited with an interest in the England international, who is said to be valued by his current side in the region of £40m.

However, the Reds are believed to be in advanced negotiations with Manchester United over the signing of Dean Henderson, who is set to spend the 2022-23 campaign on loan at the newly-promoted club.

According to Sky Sports News, there is genuine interest in Pope from Newcastle, and the stopper is open to making the move to Eddie Howe's side in the current market.

The report claims that Pope might need to be playing Premier League football next term to secure a spot in the England squad for the 2022 World Cup.

The Englishman made 39 appearances in all competitions for Burnley during the 2021-22 campaign, conceding 51 times in the process, keeping just nine clean sheets.

In the Premier League, Pope conceded 47 times in 36 matches, as the Clarets were relegated to the Championship courtesy of finishing 18th in the table behind Leeds United.

The stopper joined Burnley from Charlton Athletic in 2016 and has represented the club on 155 occasions in all competitions.

Pope has also made eight appearances for the England national team, and he was on the bench for all four of their recent UEFA Nations League fixtures against Hungary, Germany and Italy.

Martin Dubravka was Newcastle's number one goalkeeper for the majority of last season, with the 33-year-old featuring on 27 occasions in all competitions.

The Slovakia international still has more than three years left to run on his contract with the Magpies, but there has recently been speculation surrounding his future.

Meanwhile, the club's number two Karl Darlow has also been linked with an exit, with Man United thought to be considering him as a back-up stopper next term.

Newcastle, who have become one of the wealthiest clubs in world football due to their recent takeover, are expected to be active this summer, as Howe's side look to build on a strong second half to last season.

The Magpies recently completed the signing of Matt Targett from Aston Villa on a four-year deal, with the 26-year-old joining on a permanent basis after a successful loan spell in the second half of last season.
