Alan Pardew looking to further strengthen Newcastle United squad

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew says that he is hoping for a "positive end" to the summer transfer window having admitted that he is keen to strengthen further.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has revealed that he is still looking to strengthen his squad before the end of the current transfer window.

The Magpies have brought in a raft of new signings this summer, including attacking trio Emmanuel Riviere, Siem de Jong and Remy Cabella.

Despite the array of options, Newcastle are yet to score a goal this season following a 2-0 opening-weekend loss against Manchester City, which was followed up with a goalless draw against Aston Villa yesterday.

"I'm hoping for a more positive end to the window than a negative end to the window, I think we're looking at situations that might help us," Pardew is quoted as saying by Goal.com.

"We feel we've done good business but we're looking at the options we think are good enough for us so we've got our finger on the pulse and that's all I can say really.

"I think all managers hope for one or two, that doesn't mean to say they're going to arrive. I can't argue with what the board have done, we've been criticised in the past for not spending the money and not putting it back in."

Newcastle, who are currently 15th in the Premier League table, face Gillingham in the League Cup on Tuesday.
