Lille defender Sven Botman, who was strongly linked with Newcastle United in January, says that he is expecting to depart his current club this summer.

Lille defender Sven Botman has reiterated that he expects to sign for a new club during the summer transfer window.

Botman, one of the most highly-regarded young defenders in Europe, was heavily linked with the likes of Newcastle United and AC Milan in January, only to remain in France for the remainder of the campaign.

However, with Lille likely to miss out on European qualification, the Netherlands international is envisaging taking on a new challenge before 2022-23.

Speaking to L'Equipe, the 22-year-old said: "In January there were opportunities to leave but we had the Champions League and we were in a good position. I think these offers will come back.

"If it is the last season at Lille? If things go as planned, yes."

Botman, who has made 28 starts in Ligue 1 and the Champions League this season, is expected to have proposals from other clubs in the Premier League and Serie A.
