The culture, media and sport select committee threaten to place legislation on English football if changes are not made by the relevant bodies.

The government have threatened that they will create legislation on English football if the relevant bodies fail to improve the way that the game is run in this country.

The culture, media and sport select committee have released a report claiming that the Premier League is having too great an influence over the Football Association.

"While some progress has been achieved, much greater reform in football is needed to make the game inclusive, sustainable and driven from the grass roots, where it should be," London24 quotes committee chairman John Whittingdale as saying.

"The proposals for reform so far simply don't address the fundamental problems: the licensing model, the way supporters are engaged at club level and the membership of the main [FA] board, which is not fully representative or able to balance interests adequately.

"If football cannot reform itself, the Government should introduce legislation as soon as practically possible."

The committee launched proposals for reform in July 2011.
